workshop for implementation of tobacco control activities for Public Security

Hanoi, 12 November 2013, in collaboration with Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, the General Department of Logistics and Techniques, Ministry of Public Security launched a workshop for implementation of tobacco control activities within its system.

Many high ranking officers and representatives for Department of Policeman, Institutes of Public Security, Health Department and Tobacco Control Steering Committee of Department of Public Security in the northern regions were also attended to the workshop.

On behalf of the Vietnam Standing Committee on Smoking and Health (VINACOSH), Ministry of Health, Dr. Phan Thi Hai, Vice Director of VINACOSH has attended and made presentation in the workshop. The workshop is also welcomed Dr. Matthew L Myers, President of Campaigns for Tobacco Free Kids, USA and Ms. Anu Khanal, Program Coordinator and WHO national professional officers in Hanoi.
 
Speaking in the workshop, Major General. Pham Quang Cu expressed the importance of tobacco control work and the important role of public security force over the last time and next steps for enforcement.

Many leaders and representatives raised concerns and discussed about the recent achievements of smoke free development in their departments and agencies. The report of tobacco control standing committee of Ministry of Public Security figured out the plan of action by the end of 2020, in which, focus on the objectives of smoking prevalence and raising awareness and responsibilities of this force for tobacco control work.
The next workshop will be held in Lam Dong province in 12 November 2013 for the public security forces in the southern and central provinces.
