Workshop on TC Law Enforcement among Mass media

Ho Chi Minh City, 12 December 2013), under the support from Bloomberg Philanthropies- Tobacco Free Kids/USA, VINACOSH has launched the workshop to introduce the Government Decree on sanctions of administrative violations on tobacco control and the graphic health warnings in tobacco packet.
The workshop is chaired by Assoc. Prof. Luong Ngoc Khue- VINACOSH Director with the representatives for Department of Health Legislation, MOH and more than 55 mass media journalists. The workshop is aimed for introducing the content of Government Decree on sanctions of administrative violations on tobacco control and latest regulations on graphic health warnings in tobacco packet. In addition, the WLF campaigns on communication of Government Decree and graphic health warnings in tobacco packet and the role of media on communication and enforcement of GHWs and fines of violations are also discussed.
 

 
The issues laid the special concerns by mass media are how to promote the enforcement of the Decree on sanctions and competency of enforcers. In this event, Prof. Luong Ngoc Khue emphasized the important role of communication in promoting the enforcement of smoke free and implementation of tobacco control law in general.

Aimed at guiding the media to have good articles, Dr. Hang, the senior lecturer from Academy of Journalism Communication shared her experiences on how to improve the journalists’ skill of communication on tobacco control.  
 
Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang – Senior Lecturer from Academy of Journalism Communication talked the role of mass media

Her presentation focused on the role of media in enforcing TC law and others State documents, how the strengths, weaknesses,  challenges, difficulties and opportunities of media in their process of tobacco control communication activities and how to make  the journalists feel  more interested on tobacco control activities. The orientation for communication strategy on tobacco control is also discussed.
